This tasty twist updates the traditional Margarita formula — tequila & lime — with a float of Traynor’s Gamay Noir. Spring break may be cancelled this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pour ourselves a drink, close our eyes and pretend we’re sitting on a white sandy beach somewhere — right? The combination of earthy tequila, tart lime and light, juicy red wine hits all the right notes and is the perfect cocktail for the upcoming patio season. Easy to make and delicious to enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 1 oz Traynor’s Gamay Noir
- 1.5 oz Premium Tequila Blanco
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 0.75 oz Simple Syrup (or Agave Syrup)
- Garnish: Lime Wheel
Directions:
Step 1: Add the tequila, lime juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
Step 2: Strain into a cocktail glass. (You can also serve this cocktail in a rocks glass with lots of ice!)
Step 3: Carefully float the red wine on top by slowly pouring it over the back of a bar spoon so it pools on the surface of the drink.
Step 4: Garnish with a lime wheel.
Step 5: Bring it out to the patio and enjoy!
The dark cherry and ripe plum aromatics of the Gamay Noir will balance this cocktail gently and will be begging you to come back for another sip. The tequila blanco lends notes of citrus and pepper, absent any of the oaky vanilla and caramel flavours found in aged varieties. Fresh lime juice is key to any good Margarita since it allows the other ingredients to shine, so be sure that’s on your grocery list!
PRO TIP: Skip the salted rim. It’s a nice addition to most Margaritas, but in this case it clashes with the wine’s acidity, and lets face it — less of a mess in the kitchen!
