What could make a summer day in Prince Edward County with a glass of wine even better? Snacks, of course. You may have read in previous posts that the team at Traynor has big dreams for the patio at the winery, and that includes a menu of food to compliment the wine list. Sometimes patience is a virtue, but who has patience when they’re hungry?
When you visit the winery be sure to ask the team about the snack menu — you’ll be glad you did. From Conservas to charcuterie there is something for everyone to enjoy, which means you have the perfect excuse to stick around for another glass (or two).
It’s no secret that some of the newer releases, including the Pét-Nats and Piquette, have been fan-favourites for those visiting throughout the warmer months, so we asked Josh and Richard what snacks they would suggest to guests visiting the patio, or for those trying to recreate the experience at home.
It may not seem like an obvious choice, but Richard suggests pairing the Conservas Ramon Pena Scallops in Galician Sauce with the Clarete. This wine style is pretty obscure and originated in the mountains of Spain, where you co-ferment red grapes with white grapes to make a crushable light red (or dark rosé depending on who you are talking to). Somehow the flavours of this wine and the scallops just work together and bring the experience of Spain onto the patio of Traynor.
The second pairing is a classic — salty with something refreshing. Richard suggests pairing the Conservas Roman Pena Sardines in Olive Oil with the Ophelia Piquette. The slight fizz and flavours of the Piquette cut through the brininess of the sardines.
Just like the patio, the menu is always evolving, so be sure to ask what’s new so you can find your perfect Traynor wine and snack pairing on the patio this summer.
