Grape Crush x Traynor

80% Chardonnay, 20% Riesling skin contact wine! A cool fermentation and 14 days spent on skins have resulted in a refreshing and enigmatic wine that will pair perfectly with dreamy summer days on the lake. Expect bright aromatics of wet stone, electric lemon, orange rind, honeysuckle and fresh peach, with a long savoury finish. Serve chilled and enjoy all summer long.

This special edition of our collaboration series supports the Ukrainian resistance. "Vira" is a Ukrainian name that means faith, and derives from the Latin word for truth. It is a word we feel represents the hope and conviction of the Ukrainian people. The label features the work of Sana Shahmuradova, an emerging artist who currently resides in Kyiv.

Technical Notes:

  • 80% Chardonnay, 20% Riesling
  • 12.1% Alcohol
  • 6 ppm SO2 at bottling
  • 3 g/L residual sugar
  • VQA Niagara Peninsula

Winemaker's Note:

Our goal for this Orange wine is to make it more approachable and fun. By destemming the grapes, cold soaking, pressing slightly before fermentation is completed, racking the wine off the seeds and skins, and bottling it as quickly as possible, we are able to create a wine that is less tannic and harsh, while still retaining the unique characteristics of a skin-fermented white.

At Traynor Family Vineyard, we are committed to crafting natural, vegan wines that are unique and delicious. This Orange wine is the result of years of experimentation and feedback, and we believe it is the perfect representation of our winemaking style.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Grilled meats such as pork chops or sausages
  • Rich pasta dishes with meat or mushroom-based sauces
  • Soft cheese such as brie or camembert
  • Charcuterie such as salami or prosciutto
  • Spicy dishes such as Thai or Mexican cuisine
  • Aperitifs and light appetizers such as olives or marinated vegetables

The light body and subtle sweetness of this Orange wine make it a perfect pairing for bold and hearty dishes. The zesty acidity and notes of orange blossom, apricot, and bergamot complement the flavours of white fish, grilled vegetables, and aged cheeses. Its unique characteristics from skin-fermented grapes also pair well with Eastern European-inspired cuisines such as smoked fish and seafood, smoked meats, and pickled vegetables. The wine's low alcohol content and dry cleansing finish make it a great aperitif or pairing for light appetizers.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Best served chilled
  • Ideal temperature: 10-12°C
